How to Get Your UK Student Visa

Step-by-step guide to the Student visa (formerly Tier 4) process for applicants from Bahrain.

1

Apply to your chosen UK universities directly or through UCAS for undergraduate programmes.

2

Receive your CAS from your UK university after accepting an unconditional offer.

3

Gather all required documents. Many Bahraini students attended British curriculum schools and may be exempt from IELTS at undergraduate level โ€” check with your university.

4

Complete the UKVI Student visa application at gov.uk. Pay the application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge โ€” check gov.uk for current amounts.

5

Book a biometric appointment at the Visa Application Centre in Manama. Upload documents beforehand.

6

Attend your biometrics appointment with all original documents.

7

Await a decision (typically around 3 weeks). Collect your BRP from your UK university on arrival.

Documents Checklist

Make sure you have all of these before submitting your visa application. Missing documents are the most common reason for delays and refusals.

Valid Bahraini passport

CAS reference number

Financial evidence โ€” bank statements for 28 consecutive days

Academic qualifications and transcripts

English language certificate (IELTS or TOEFL) โ€” may be waived for British curriculum school leavers

ATAS certificate if required for your postgraduate subject

Bank Statement Requirements

Financial evidence is critical. This is one of the most common reasons for visa refusals โ€” make sure you understand exactly what is required.

Financial Evidence Required for Bahrain

Must show maintenance funds plus first-year tuition. London: ยฃ1,334/month ร— 9 = ยฃ12,006. Outside London: ยฃ1,023/month ร— 9 = ยฃ9,207. Add first-year tuition fees. Bahrain has a high per-capita income โ€” many students are family-funded. Check gov.uk for current maintenance figures.

Key rules to remember: Funds must be present for 28 consecutive days ending no more than 31 days before your visa application date. Do not move large sums in or out during this window. If your university confirms your tuition is paid, you may not need to show tuition fees separately โ€” check your CAS for details.
