How to Get Your UK Student Visa

Step-by-step guide to the Student visa (formerly Tier 4) process for applicants from Pakistan.

1

Apply to UK universities through UCAS (undergraduate) or directly to the university (postgraduate). UK universities accept Pakistani education board results โ€” check individual university grade requirements.

2

Receive your CAS from your UK university after accepting an unconditional offer.

3

Gather all required documents including financial evidence, English language results, and academic transcripts.

4

Complete the UKVI Student visa application at gov.uk. Pay the visa application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge โ€” check gov.uk for current amounts.

5

Book a biometric appointment at a Visa Application Centre in Pakistan โ€” available in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and other cities.

6

Attend your biometrics appointment with all original documents.

7

Undergo a TB test at a UKVI-approved clinic โ€” required for Pakistani nationals. Book this early.

8

Await a decision (typically around 3 weeks). Collect your BRP from your UK university within 10 days of arrival in the UK.

Documents Checklist

Make sure you have all of these before submitting your visa application. Missing documents are the most common reason for delays and refusals.

Valid Pakistani passport

CAS reference number from your UK university

Academic qualifications โ€” Matric/O-Level, FSc/A-Level/HSSC certificates and transcripts; degree certificates for postgraduate applicants

Tuberculosis (TB) test results from a UKVI-approved clinic โ€” required for Pakistani nationals

Bank Statement Requirements

Financial evidence is critical. This is one of the most common reasons for visa refusals โ€” make sure you understand exactly what is required.

Financial Evidence Required for Pakistan

Must show maintenance funds plus first-year tuition. London: ยฃ1,334/month ร— 9 = ยฃ12,006. Outside London: ยฃ1,023/month ร— 9 = ยฃ9,207. Add first-year tuition fees. Pakistani students are predominantly self-funded or family-funded. Bank statements in Pakistani Rupees are acceptable if the balance converts to the required GBP amount. Funds must have been held for 28 consecutive days. Check gov.uk for current maintenance figures.

Key rules to remember: Funds must be present for 28 consecutive days ending no more than 31 days before your visa application date. Do not move large sums in or out during this window. If your university confirms your tuition is paid, you may not need to show tuition fees separately โ€” check your CAS for details.
